DEMR urges Freeport immediately wake processing plant

The Ministry of energy and Mineral resources (DEMR) urged PT Freeport Indonesia build processing factories or mines purification smelters in the country. Such requests according to commendation which is already listed in points renegosiasi between the Government and Freeport.

"I have to run the legislation, the legislation must point the way, I'm not the Government," said Director General of Minerals and coal and MINERAL RESOURCES Ministry's Office in the Ministry of Thamrin Sihite DEMR, Jakarta, Friday (2/3).

Thamrin said, if Freeport is not build on purification processing Indonesia would be contrary to the Mineral and coal ACT No. 4 of 2009. "They are obliged to cultivate in the country," stated he.

In the meantime, related to reasons of Freeport said that construction of the smelter, it can be less economical was out-manoeuvered by the presence of incentives given nor the placement location of the smelter is more strategic.

Freeport suggested working together to build smelters with firms in the country, namely Indonesia Smelting. "The archipelago's Smelting kan underfunded, yes could work with them," he said.

In addition to the smelter, Freeport was still reluctant to reduce its area of 25,000 acres in accordance with renegosiasi points listed in renegosiasi points.
