While advocates fight for taking guns off the street, one police officer Orlando left his loaded, sitting in a patrol car parked with the window open.
The officer said the unnamed WESH.com was in court Tuesday morning, but refused to say when he left his patrol in Baldwin Park Street with the window rolled down and a loaded AR-15 semi-automatic rifle in clear view. (See video above).
Concerned residents contacted the news crew after they noticed the gun in hand. He said a neighbor wash the car parked there for hours. "I know accidents happen, but this is very serious," another. "There are a lot of kids who come here every day, so who knows, they may get curious."
The Police Department is not pleased with the oversight, either, although spokesman James young patient was locked in place.
"We do not want our officers to do so, we do not want people leave Windows Open either. It is clear that mistakes sometimes happen, "young told the station.
The Department is not the first to suffer embarrassment through a high-level weapon apparently unsecured: in 2011, the Seattle police officer left a semi-automatic rifle on the trunk of a patrol car and forgot about it before another officer drove through downtown Seattle and left it standing with an arm sits out in the open.
